The global financial market meltdown continues to plague international stock markets.
In New York, the blue-chip Dow Jones industrial average recovered some of Wednesday's heavy losses to close almost five percent up after a day of highly volatile trading, while in Europe, Frankfurt's DAX closed almost five percent down. The CAC 40 in Paris and London's FTSE 100 shed over five percent. This follows severe slumps in Asian trading where Tokyo's Nikkei index closed 11 percent down.
