The Bundestag has voted to increase the number of troops that Germany can send to Afghanistan by 1,000 to a total of 4,500.
The measure passed easily, with 442 parliamentarians voting in favour and just 92 voting against. It also extends the German mandate by 14 months, to take it beyond next year's federal elections.
