German heavy truck maker Daimler has announced it plans to cut 3,500 jobs in North America, blaming the worsening economic slowdown.
Daimler, the world's biggest maker of heavy trucks, said Tuesday it will shut down two plants - one in Ontario, Canada in March, and another in Portland, Oregon in June 2010. Production will move to Mexico. Based on figures it provided, the group plans to eliminate around one quarter of its workforce in North American heavy truck production.
