Montenegro has formally recognised the independence of Kosovo after its secession from Serbia earlier this year.
Montenegro's Foreign Minister Milan Rocen said the move was unanimously ratified by government ministers. Rocen said afterwards that he hoped relations would remain friendly with Serbia, a traditional ally and staunch opponent of Kosovo's secession. The recognition came almost at the same time that Belgrade reinstated its ambassadors to the US and other Western countries for recognising Kosovo's independence in February.
