Spain's Supreme Cout overturns 4 Madrid bombing convictions ... Court has overturned the convictions of 14 people jailed for plotting terrorist attacks on Madrid in 2004.
The court upheld verdicts for six other people, though one of the men had his sentence reduced after the court acquitted him of belonging to a terrorist cell. The Islamist group's leader, Abderrahmane Tahiri, is to serve out his prison sentence of 14 years. In October 2004, prosecutors charged thirty suspects, mostly Moroccans and Algerians, with planning to blow up a court. Earlier that year, a separate group of Islamists killed 191 people in bomb-attacks on Madrid trains, for which 21 men were jailed.
