The Dutch food safety watchdog says it has found slightly elevated levels of melamine in cookies imported from China.
The Dutch Food and Wares Authority says the cookies were sold only in Chinese shops and have already been pulled from shelves. The Authority said the chance that they made anybody sick was extremely small. Chinese police have arrested at least 22 people suspected of the production of melamine. Police discovered over 220 kilograms of the substance during raids on dairy farms and milk purchasing stations. The toxic chemical is added to milk products to make them appear richer in protein.
