Eleven European tourists who were kidnapped 11 days ago in the Egyptian desert have returned home.
The five Germans, five Italians and a Romanian were seized by unknown captors along with eight Egyptian drivers and tour guides, who were also freed on Monday in an operation by Sudanese and Egyptian soldiers. The German government has confirmed that German special forces were also involved in the operation, in which half of the abductors were reportedly killed. Both Italian and Egyptian officials have stressed that no ransom payments had taken place.
