Chinese state media say police in northern Hebei province have arrested 27 people suspected of involvement in introducing the chemical melamine into the supply chain.
The 27 are among 36 detained since the investigation into the tainted milk scandal began. Thousands of children have been hospitalised with kidney illnesses and four have died after drinking milk formula tainted with the industrial chemical. China and Russia sign border agreement ... and purchasing stations. The chemical can make watered-down milk appear richer in protein. The European Union and several African and Asian countries have moved to ban or limit consumption of Chinese dairy imports.
