The first face-to-face debate in the run-up to the US presidential election has concluded.
Foreign policy was the planned topic of the showdown, but at least half of the questions revolved around the financial market crunch. Initial opinion polling gave Democratic candidate Barack Obama a substantial lead. Republican contender John McCain agreed to face off with Obama after initially saying he was reluctant to take part in the campaign event amid the current crisis.
