Hungarian police have fired tear gas and clashed with more than a thousand far-right extremists in the capital Budapest.
The protesters attacked riot police with petrol bombs and cobblestones and chanted anti-government and anti-Semitic slogans. Far-right groups in Hungary have frequently protested in the last two years against Socialist Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany. Earlier in the day, supporters from Socialist and Roma organisations, led by Gyurcsany, demonstrated against the rise in extremism in the central European country.
