1305: Looks like it will be Faldo's team leaves for Ryder Cup ...
Animal activists urge humane hats for London changing of the guard ...
EU ministers back French immigration proposal ...
Unicredit cuts jobs and eyes east ... Rose to throw first.
1303: The players are on the 1st tee. Getting ready to rumble. Faldo is having a right old giggle with Poults. No pressure boys.
1300: The BBC Radio 5 Live team have been discussing Faldo's captaincy so far. Former skipper Bernard Gallacher said: "It would have been better if he had others bouncing ideas around. He should be the chairman of an advisory panel and be open to other suggestions. There has been suggestions that Olazabal has not been on the course with Faldo and they didn't walk with him up the 18th last night. He seems to have another job.
Andrew Coltart added: "I hope I'm made to eat my words later on but I'm not sure he knows what's going on."
1257: Can we all get behind Faldo and stop criticising him during the Ryder Cup. If you're a supporter of Team Europe, then let's start supporting."

I'll second that Kyle.
1254: "Despite a massive sun icon in the weather section on the front of the local newspaper the Courier-Journal, there are dark, brooding clouds above Valhalla and a spot of rain. Obviously I left my waterproofs behind today."

1253: (Re 1214) Who on earth gets new shoes at the start of 5 days of the most demanding continuos golf in the world? Madness!

1246: Nick Faldo has just jumped in his golf cart and headed to the first tee. He's just popped a tablet of something. It's probably not surprising, I can't imagine he slept well after a brutally intense day. As a player there were few better at coping with the pressure. We'll see how he handles it as a captain today.
1245: "The patriotism shown at the Ryder Cup is normal here. It can be sen as obnoxious but much of it is refreshing. In the US most people still sing the National Anthem with enthusiasm and are patriotic in a positive way that has diminished in the UK."

1239: The players are down on the range going through their pre-game routines. It looks like the Euros will be dressed in a rather fetching pale blue, with the US boys in a darker shirt. That will make it a bit easier for us with slightly dodgy vision to make out which team is which. It was sometimes a struggle yesterday with both in white, I don't mind admit admitting.

1230: The last time Europe has suffered such a bad first day since 1979, the first year that the game was played between continental Europe and the USA. The good news was that on Saturday the Europeans won the morning foursomes 3-1 - including a 6&5 win for Nick Faldo - and then tied 2-2 in the afternoon fourballs. The bad news is they then took a spanking in the singles on Sunday and lost the Cup 17-11.
1227: We've got just under 40 minutes before the first game tees off between Ian Poulter and Justin Rose against Stewart Cink and Chad Campbell. The sun is just beginning to rise over in Kentucky and we've just seen pictures of Padraig Harrington arriving. He's off a bit later at 1350 BST.
1219: To think that in the build-up to this match there were some suggestions that the Americans were not that into the Ryder Cup. It didn't seem that way as Boo Weekley and JB Holmes were trying to secure a sixth point late last night. But Weekley's antics at whipping the crowd into a frenzy did not go down too well with Westwood.
1214: So when you woke up this morning and saw the news you were probably wondering what on earth was Faldo thinking. I know I was. Here's what he had to say:
"Sergio was tired. He was on antibiotics last week. Lee has whopping great blisters on his feet from his new shoes.
"This week is a gruelling week on the body. Sergio wanted to be rested. Lee definitely didn't but I wanted him to be. We still have 20 points to play for."
1210: It was very much the USA's day on Friday as they took a commanding three-point lead. But by the early hours the absence of Westwood and Garcia was the big talking point. Our man in Louisville, Rob Hodgetts, has been having his say on the matter.

1205: European skipper Nick Faldo came under fire on 606 yesterday and his omission of Sergio Garcia and Lee Westwood is likely to leave him open to further criticism. Whatever you want to say, head on over and get involved in the chat.

1200: Recovered from yesterday yet? No, me neither. But this is the Ryder Cup, there's no time to rest. It's time to tee it up and get back out there.
Over the past 25 years we've come to expect drama from golf's most treasured team contest and Friday did not disappoint.
For over 11 hours the two teams battled it out in a day packed with great golf, major drama and high emotions.
What can we expect from Saturday's foursomes and fourballs? More of the same I'd imagine.
