In an interview with the Mьnchner Merkur newspaper, Merkel also criticized the United States and Britain for obstructing Germany's efforts to implement greater transparency. She urged political and business leaders to draw the right conclusions from the current financial crisis. Her remarks come as the US government announced an unprecedented bailout worth nearly one trillion dollars to end the most serious financial meltdown in decades. Meanwhile, a bankruptcy judge in New York has approved a plan by Lehman Brothers to sell its investment banking and trading businesses to the British bank Barclays.
