European Union chief diplomat Javier Solana says Iran has given no clear response to the offer of an incentives package in exchange for a suspension of Iran's nuclear enrichment activities.
Solana was speaking after holding talks with Iranian nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili in Geneva, Switzerland. He said EU and Iranian negotiators had agreed to another meeting in two weeks' time. Jalili called the talks "positive and constructive". In a major policy shift by Washington, US Under-Secretary of State William Burns also attended the talks. Western countries suspect that Iran is secretly trying to develop nuclear weapons. Iran is adamant that its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes only.
