Nepal declares itself a republic ... in southern Nepal. The winner requires a simple majority in Saturday's vote. Results are expected to be announced later in the day. Nepal has been in political limbo since the constitutional assembly sacked unpopular king Gyanendra and abolished the 240-year-old Hindu monarchy on May 28.
