The International Committee of the Red Cross says it has handed over the bodies of eight fighters to the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah as part of a prisoner swap with Israel. At the start of the swap Hezbollah handed over two coffins to Israel, saying they contained the remains of two Israeli soldiers captured in a cross-border raid in 2006.
The abduction of the soldiers sparked Israel's invasion and bombing of Lebanon that lasted more than a month. Israel is conducting DNA tests to confirm the identities of the soldiers before handing over five Lebanese fighters in another phase of the exchange.
