Stars of the film including Liam Neeson, Ben Barnes and David Walliams were at the premiere.

Prince Caspian is the sequel to The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe which took $750m (Ј381m) worldwide in 2005.

William Moseley, who plays Peter Pevensie, told reporters he trained for three-and-a-half months before filming started.

He said the turnout at the O2 was "mind-blowing"

"It's really beyond anything I could have imagined," he added.

Anna Popplewell, who played his sister Susan, said: "It's really nice to bring the film home for us British actors and to be with a home crowd."

'Spectacular'

The second instalment of The Chronicles, based on the bestselling books by CS Lewis, promises to take audiences on an "extraordinary" journey back to the magical land of Narnia.

Film studio Disney claim the sequel is "bigger and more spectacular than ever before", with more action scenes and visual effects.

The pedestrian area surrounding the O2 arena was transformed into a Narnia world, with fighting knights and horseback sword performers entertaining fans and celebrities.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian is released in UK cinemas on 26 June.
