The unique operation was performed on the 31-year-old man on Monday and several experts took part in it. The doctors made an extensive reconstruction of the crushed and amputated bones of the ankle and stabilised them with an external metal construction.
Arteries and veins were reconstructed, too. The leg will remain sensitive as doctors also succeeded in sewing small nerves together. The patient feels well and no problems have arisen so far, Jelinkova said. The man will be able to walk again.
