Germany's defence minister has said he would like to increase the number of Bundeswehr troops stationed in Afghanistan.
Speaking on German public radio, Franz Josef Jung said it was necessary to do so after the recent deployment of a quick reaction force to northern Afghanistan. He did not name any numbers as to how large a possible increase would be. Currently 3,500 German soldiers are based in Afghanistan as part of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force.
