The United States has expressed regret over an air raid that killed 11 Pakistani troops close to the Afghan border.
The Pentagon claimed the attack had been a legitimite strike in self-defense carried out against militant insurgents firing at coalition forces in Afghanistan. Pakistani officials have strongly condemned the attack which took place on Pakistani soil. A statement released by Pakistan's military described the air strike as "unprovoked and cowardly." It also warned that it could jeopardise bilateral co-operation in the fight against terrorism.
