A court in Zimbabwe has overturned a government ban on opposition campaign rallies.
A lawyer for the Movement for Democratic Change told reporters that a judge at the High Court in Harare had issued an order to police to allow the planned rallies to proceed. Charles Kwaramba said the MDC had filed an urgent application to the court after police had denied the party authorisation to stage a number of presidential campaign events. Deal 'close' for Mugabe to leave ... their decision on reports from the MDC that its members had been threatened with assassination. MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai is facing the incumbent, Robert Mugabe in a presidential run-off election on June 27. According to official results, Tsvangirai won the first round back in March, but not with the more than 50 percent of votes needed to avoid a run-off.
