Following a six hour emergency party meeting, a spokesperson for the Islamic oriented AKP, said the court's ruling was a violation of Turkey's separation of powers. The right for female Muslims to wear headscarves at university is a key policy of the AK party. On Friday, Turkey's Constitutional Court threw out the government's attempt to lift the ban, saying it would violate the country's secular system. The court is also due in the coming months to rule on whether the AKP should be banned for Islamic subversion. Correspondents say this prospect now looks more likely.
