Zimbabwe's MDC opposition party says its leader Morgan Tsvangirai has been stopped by police near Bulawayo and escorted to a police station while campaigning for the run-off election against President Robert Mugabe.

Harare diary ... five US and two British diplomats for several hours after they had visited victims of political violence north of Harare. The European Union has demanded that Mugabe's government lift its ban on all work by aid groups. EU commissioner Louis Michel said hundreds of thousands of impoverished Zimbabweans depended on aid for their survival. Mugabe's government said all non-governmental organisations would have to reapply for accredition and promise not to interfere in Zimbabwe's politics.
