Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called an emergency meeting of his Islamic-oriented AKP party a day after Turkey's constitutional court upheld a ban on Islamic headscarves at universities.
The ruling annulls an AKP-sponsored law that had allowed headscarves on campus, which had been the centrepiece of party policies. Correspondents say the court's ruling also strengthens a bid by prosecutors to outlaw the party. A verdict on that is expected later this year.
