The court verdict, according to which Social Democrat (CSSD) shadow justice minister Marie Benesova need not apologise to Vesecka and other judiciary representatives for her statements about "judiciary mafia" is no evidence that the alleged corruption case of deputy PM Jiri Cunek was manipulated, Topolanek added. "I cannot see a mistake committed by her [Vesecka]," Topolanek said. The left-wing opposition Social Democrats (CSSD) call for Vesecka's immediate dismissal or resignation. Czech JustMin to check political pressure in Qatari Prince case ... coalition deputies want her resignation, too. "As I read it, the verdict did not decide on Vesecka and other judiciary employees being guilty or not guilty but it only says Marie Benesova need not apologise," Topolanek said. The CSSD called on Justice Minister Jiri Pospisil (ODS) to immediately propose that Vesecka be dismissed.
If Pospisil did not do so, Topolanek should dismiss him or the Social Democrats would propose Topolanek's resignation, CSSD chairman Jiri Paroubek told reporters. Topolanek said he would not react to it. He only said if he were able to dismiss Paroubek, he would do so. Topolanek noted that attorneys made number of mistakes in Cunek's case that Vesecka had to solve, which he considers alarming. This is why Topolanek will demand that Vesecka make system and personnel changes to prevent similar situations from repeating in the future. Cunek, chairman of the junior ruling Christian Democrats (KDU-CSL), resigned from the posts of deputy PM and local development minister last November when his case of suspected bribery was reopened. It was, however, definitively halted a fortnight later and Cunek returned to the centre-right government in April. Speculations emerged about some judiciary representatives exerting pressure on the attorneys in Cunek's case. Vesecka then ordered the continuation of the prosecution of Cunek. After new questioning, the attorney in charge concluded that no crime had been committed in the case and he halted the prosecution again.
