The Iraqi president's office says the wife of President Jalal Talabani has narrowly escaped death in a roadside bomb explosion near her convoy in central Baghdad.

US Iraq troops 'insult to region' ... it has killed 14 militants in the Shi'ite militia strongholds of Sadr City and Shula. The fighting was part of a security offensive which the Iraqi government launched on March 25 to clear the areas of militants and criminal gangs. Meanwhile, the US military says a roadside bomb has killed four of its soldiers in the violence-prone Anbar province.
