The group of four major powers known as the Middle East Quartet has called on Israel and the Palestinian Authority to respect their commitments to peace negotiations.
United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon used a Quartet meeting in London to appeal to Israel to stop expanding settlements on Palestinian territory. Ban also called on Palestinian leaders to take action to prevent rocket attacks on Israel.
