Across Israel people have held two minutes silence in remembrance of the six million Jews who were murdered in the Nazi holocaust of the 1930s and 40s.
Sirens wailed in Israeli towns as the nation stopped for Holocaust day, marked each year on May 1. On Wednesday, Israeli President Shimon Peres vowed the Jewish state would never allow the Jewish genocide to be repeated. Olmert warned of increasing anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial around the world. On Wednesday in Germany an archive of files on some 50 million non-Germans persecuted and killed in the Holocaust was officially opened to the public. The files can be viewed in the central German town of Bad Arolsen.
