Vietnamese police have detained at least two anti-China activists in the capital Hanoi ahead of the next leg of the Olympic torch relay in Ho Chi Minh City.
So far, demonstrations called for by Vietnamese bloggers have failed to materialise in Hanoi. Activists are also calling for protests during the run in Ho Chi Minh City where security is heavy. The Beijing Olympics torch relay has been dogged by pro-Tibet demonstrations in the US and Europe. The protests in Vietnam are directed towards resentment over China's claims to the Spratly and Paracel islands, two possibly oil-rich archipelagos in the South China Sea over which Vietnam also claims sovereignty.
