In Zimbabwe pressure is mounting for results to be released in the disputed presidential election which was held three weeks ago. Meanwhile President Robert Mugabe's ZANU-PF party has retained the first seat in a partial recount of parliamentary votes.
To regain control of parliament, ZANU-PF needs to reverse the results in seven of the 23 seats being recounted. Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai has denounced the recount as a ploy by Mugabe to steal back control of parliament. Elsewhere, British prime minister Gordon Brown has joined the international outcry over a Chinese shipment of arms to Zimbabwe and called for an embargo. The current position of the shipment is unknown.
