US President George W Bush has welcomed his Mexican and Canadian counterparts at an annual meeting of the North American Free Trade Agreement in New Orleans.
Mexican President Felipe Calderon and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper are to meet separately with the US President on Monday. The three are expected to defend the free trade agreement as it has been strongly criticised by both Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Both have said that if elected they would renegotiate NAFTA to include stiffer environmental and labour standards.
