Afghan strife keeps children home ... The son of the Netherlands' new military chief was among two Dutch NATO soldiers who have been killed by a roadside bomb in southern Afghanistan.
Two other Dutch soldiers were injured in the attack that killed Dennis van Uhm, the son of General Peter van Uhm, who was named top commander of the Dutch armed forces on Thursday. Separately, Afghan President Hamid Karzai has reacted to a suicide attack at a market in the southern city of Zarang. Karzai said in a statement that the act was anti-Islamic and offered his condolences to the families of those killed in Thursday's bombing, whose death toll has now risen to 23.
