Iraqi forces have freed a British journalist who was kidnapped from a hotel in Iraq's southern city of Basra on February 15.
Iraqi Defence Ministry spokesman Major-General Mohammed al-Askary told Reuters that Richard Butler, a photographer for the US network CBS, was freed in a military operation. He is said to be in good health. Meanwhile in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, eleven people including five civilians were killed on Monday when a roadside bomb targeting a police patrol exploded in one of the city centre's main thoroughfares.
